Mustang GTD: race hardware, road plates

The GTD looks like a Mustang that wandered out of the race paddock. Its most interesting parts are the ones you cannot see from the sidewalk.

Ford developed it alongside the Mustang GT3. A supercharged 5.2 liter V8 supplies the noise, while a rear transaxle, carbon fiber construction and active aerodynamics show how seriously Ford took the rest of the package.

Ford’s September announcement opened applications in Italy, with that window ending October 16. That is a market specific announcement, rather than an invitation for every buyer worldwide.

For me, the appeal is the whole machine. Plenty of cars make big power. A Mustang built around cooling, balance and aero gives us something else to talk about.
