Corvette ZR1X: when 1,250 hp comes from the factory

There was a time when four digit horsepower sounded like something reserved for a serious aftermarket build. The Corvette ZR1X puts that kind of number on a factory spec sheet.

What’s behind the number

Chevrolet’s current 2027 ZR1X page lists 1,250 combined horsepower. A twin turbo 5.5 liter LT7 V8 drives the rear wheels, while an electric drive unit powers the front axle. It’s a gas/electric hybrid with all wheel drive, not a fully electric Corvette.

That combination is the important part. More power is only useful if the car can put it down, and adding a driven front axle gives the ZR1X another way to find traction.

What it means for car culture

Factory performance keeps moving into territory that used to belong to heavily modified cars. It makes the old stock versus built conversation a lot more interesting.

But the fastest factory car won’t replace the appeal of a personal build. Choosing the parts, solving problems and making a car your own are still a huge part of the hobby.

Which would you choose: a complete factory package like this, or an older car built exactly the way you want it?
