Aston Martin Valkyrie: look underneath the drama

The empty space under the Valkyrie is as interesting as the bodywork above it.

Look at the openings beneath the bodywork. Aston Martin describes an open underfloor designed to generate downforce, with carbon fiber bodywork shaped around it.

The coupe uses a 6.5 liter V12 that Aston Martin lists with a maximum engine speed of 11,100 rpm. Its specification also includes a hybrid system and a rear mounted seven speed sequential transmission. The transmission casing contributes to the rear suspension structure, which tells you how closely the pieces are tied together.

The seats and compact cabin fit within a carbon fiber structure. The car’s unusual layout shows how much of the design is devoted to airflow and performance.

The side and rear views show those openings most clearly. This article covers the road coupe. The Spider, AMR Pro and LM versions have different specifications.

YOUR TURN

Where would you start looking?
The openings and underfloor are central to the shape. Rotate the model toward a side view to follow them.
The cabin is tightly packaged. Compare its size with the fenders and the rest of the body.
